April Wikio Gastronomy Blog Rankings.
Wikio asked me to do a preview of this month’s rankings so here they are. Apparently they are calculated by ‘the number and weight of incoming links from other blogs’. I have slipped from number 3 to 4 this month so clearly my incoming links were too few in number and a little on the light side…
P.S. I hope you like the cupcakes. I will reveal why I have been eating far too many in my next post.

This sentence: ‘the number and weight of incoming links from other blogs’ makes no sense to me. How do you weigh a link?

I dunno, perhaps it means like how influential the linking sites are – like if you had a link coming in from The Guardian or something then that would carry much more weight than say, someone elses blog? Oh I don’t know – Wikio people? Explain yourslves!! (Still, YAY!).

A word of warning – by posting this, you’ve ensured you slip a few places next month! That’s because you’ve just boosted all of the other top 20, but had nothing in return. I posed the round-up two months running and as a result I’ve gone from 6 to 11!

Secondly–I too questioned the Wikio folks about their methodology. They told me this…
Only links found in the RSS feed are included. Blogrolls are not taken into account, and the weight of any given link increases according to how recently it was published. We thus hope to provide a classification that is more representative of the current influence levels of the blogs therein.
Moreover, the weight of a link depends on the linking blog’s position in the Wikio ranking. With our algorithm, the weight of a link from a top blog is greater than that of a link from a blog that is less well ranked.”

I’m sure there is a perfectly rational explanation for all of this, but ****** me with a ****pole if I can think of what it might be.
I’ve been so distracted by twitter etc I have hardly posted in the last couple of months, so how I can jump up to 8th I have no idea, however, I appreciate the links
